In an attack there are so many things happening at once. It seems like it is something that is ultimately impossible to prepare for. While you can never fully prepare for an attack as there is no way to know what the scenario could potentially be in, you can train your body and mind to be prepared to get out, get away and change the extent or outcome of an attack. I truly believe that every woman should train jiu jitsu to some extent. You DO NOT have to be a black belt to have enough knowledge to defend yourself in a real life situation. I’ve seen plenty of white belts escape from being under a 200 pound man. Jiu Jitsu is leverage based martial arts, developed for smaller people to defeat larger attackers. The moves and techniques taught teach you how to defend yourself against a larger stronger opponent and take control of the situation. You’ll develop the ability to remove the physical intimidation factors and free yourself to deal with the more important physical aspects of the attack. By training regularly you will learn how deal with the stress and pressure of a real attack. You learn to stay calm in bad positions and not panic. It trains your mind to look at the biggest threat, remove it and start working on the next. You cannot look at it as being on the ground fighting, being undignified or unfeminine. Instead look at it as empowerment and confidence, eliminating the image of the ideal victim.
