Mount week has always been my most dreaded week at Jiu Jitsu. It was my goal just to make it through a single drill yet alone a class or the week. These days the goal was to just make it through, to survive. Often times once I realized it was mount week, I would easily find a reason to miss class. So instead of reliving those memories and enduring that pain all week I would only have to bear down and push through 2-3 days tops!
Oh how things have changed! Not only did I survive mount week last week….I survived mount week with all guest instructors as my coach was out of town. Not only did I survive mount week I trained every day and did not have even ONE issue! In fact I was able to truly focus on the techniques taught without any residual thoughts. Without triggering any bad memories. Without being selective or avoiding specific partners. Without wanting to bolt for the door even once!
And there you have it…..Not only did I survive mount week I owned it! I laughed, I learned, I fought and towards the end of the week I realized that I have overcome and beat one of my biggest obstacles yet. The fear of mount no longer has control over me!
